Mid-Appalachian Region of the National Speleological Society
MAR PUBLICATIONS
Since 1954, the Mid-Appalachian Region occasionally publishes a publication in the form of a "Bulletin". The original purpose of the bulletin was to act as a role of a newsletter for the Region. However, the MAR Bulletin was redirected from a newsletter to becoming the archive of the new state-wide cave survey for Pennsylvania in the 1960's, when the Mid-Appalachian Region of the NSS decided on the formation of the Pennsylvania Cave Survey. The new data was then released as regional or county MAR Bulletins. The first of these new format, MAR Bulletin, No. 4, Caves and Geology of the Shippensburg Area, was published in 1958.
This new effort, or direction, is still followed presently. Currently, there are 22 MAR Bulletins in print with a few works-in-progress.
The last addition to the MAR Bulletins series is MAR Bulletin No. 22 -Caves of the Middle Susquehanna Valley by Keith Christensen, Bryan Crowell, and William White. The bulletin, printed in February 2016, and is available for sale for $16.00.
