Mid-Appalachian Region of
the National Speleological Society

The MAR Breakdown is the journal of the Mid-Appalachian Region (MAR) of the National Speleological Society (NSS). The first issue of the Breakdown was published in early 1986 and acted as a replacement to the earlier MAR flier.

Starting with January 2004 (Volume 18, No. 3), the Breakdown became available as a free on-line publication in PDF format, in addition to the standard hard-copy mailed to subscribers. After 10 years of offering the Breakdown as a digital version, the printed and mailed hard copies of the publication were discontinued as of the April 2014 issue.

The Breakdown is normally published three times a year - prior to the Annual Business Meeting, prior to the Spring Field Meet, and prior to the Fall Field Meet. The publication typically contains information on upcoming spring and fall field meets (flyer and registration form), write-ups of recent field meets, special announcements, meeting minutes from the annual business meeting, listing of available MAR Bulletins, and other items of interest. The Breakdown also acts as a vehicle in which minutes from the Pennsylvania Cave Conservancy (PCC)meetings are printed and disseminated.

Submissions:
Submissions (i.e. articles, notices, etc.) can be sent to the editor either by US Mail or via email. Any articles, announcements, or other materials of general interest to cavers in the Region are welcome. Electronic submissions via email are encouraged, preferably as a Microsoft Word document (.DOC), rich text file (.RTF), or in text format (.TXT). Please consult the editor for any questions as to whether another format of input is acceptable.
